A friend of mine, who is a widow in South Africa, explained to me that if she were to remarry the pension provided by her late husband's employer would be cancelled forthwith.  (a) Is this fair?  (b) What course of action should she take?

    No. It is not fair! Her husband worked for the pension and her getting remarried does not change that.
